Miriam was born and raised in El Paso, TX. This border location provided her with a unique mix of cultures between her native Mexican roots and American traditions. Dancing is a common activity in her culture. Miriam thought about getting a degree in performing arts but her love for nature and curiosity of natural disasters allowed her to receive a Bachelors of Science in Geophysics. She obtained volcanic research experience that took her to Hawaii and Iceland. In the future, Miriam plans to receive a second bachelors degree in nursing and of course to keep learning, teaching, and performing the art of Dance. While focusing in her studies, Miriam was intrigued with a belly dance class that was offered in the area in 2005. Since then, she has pursued her personal development as a Belly Dancer. Miriam began taking classes from El Paso's belly dancers Karisha Willow and Danielle Boney. She also took classes and workshops from World known Kaya and Sadie in Denver, CO. Located in Socorro, NM, Et Alia and Aditi Natesa Troupes were performing groups that Miriam was part of. She has belly danced at personal birthday events and salsa socials in Galveston and Houston, TX. Her arrival in Houston, TX has given Miriam the opportunity to teach belly dance classes at Alvin Community College and at private homes in 2009. In 2010 she taught at a local Houston dance studio. She has also learned the beautiful dances of Salsa and Bachata. Miriam performed salsa routines in Houston in 2010 and is currently a member of Yambere Dance Team from El Paso. This challenge has allowed her to experiment with merging her Hispanic dance background with the Belly Dance techniques she has developed. ![]()
